What is Tritan?

It is a new generation of materials developed by Eastman company, the full name is Tritan Copolyester, which is polymerized by monomer CBDO, terephthalic acid and cyclohexanediol. It has the advantages of hydrolysis resistance and high strength.

CBDO, 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol, white crystalline powder, according to the different positions of hydroxyl groups, it has cis and trans isomers. The C4 ring of the cis-CBDO is non-planar and the crystals have a dihedral angle of 17.5°, while the dihedral angle of the trans-CBDO is 0°. CBDO has a symmetrical structure, the C4 ring is very stable.

In addition, CBDO (Model No.: S0776) can also be applied to powder coatings, polyurethane dispersions, thermoplastic polyurethanes, hydrogels, waterborne polyester coatings, solventborne alkyds, container coatings, UV-curable coatings, bio-based or renewable coatings and so on; CBDO can also be used as an antibacterial agent in water-based coatings and other coatings, it can limit the growth of bacteria.

Is it safe to use products especially cups made of Tritan?

In fact, there is no material absolutely safe. Compared with other materials, Tritan has high transparency, high impact resistance, high chemical resistance. In general, it is safer. When selecting products, the most important thing is to get from the formal channels, then you can choose Tritan products if you want, but the price will be more expensive.
