Nitro tetrazolium chloride |298-83-9, referred to in English as NBT, is a very popular chemical reagent, in vitro diagnostic reagent, commonly used as color reagent. NBT is widely used in biological and chemical experiments because it has the characteristics of good stability, high linearity, strong anti-interference ability and low cost.

NBT works mainly through the synthesis of chemical reagents. The most common application is to detect alkaline phosphatase substrates in immunoblot experiments and to generate insoluble blue products under the catalysis of alkaline phosphatase. NBT is not only used as a substrate for dehydrogenase and other peroxidases, but also for the determination of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase, superoxide dismutase, etc.However, it can also be used as a colorimetric indicator of bacterial infection in blood samples for screening urinary tract infection.
